Under Vistara Freedom Fares, we have revised the free baggage allowance under each fare category.

Additionally, we have a per piece baggage concept for Economy Lite passengers only. Under this policy, Economy Lite passengers can carry only 1 piece of baggage, with a maximum weight of 15kg.

Please note Economy Lite fares are valid only for travel within India

There are two ways you can purchase excess baggage:

1. At the airport:

For travel within India,

If only additional weight is being carried: you will be charged INR 600 per kg, irrespective of the fare you selected.

For Economy Lite passengers also carrying additional pieces, you will be charged INR 2,000 (handling charges) per piece at the airport

For International travel (to Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Colombo, Dhaka, Doha, Dubai, Kathmandu, Maldives, Muscat, Jeddah, Dammam, and Singapore)

If only additional weight is being carried: you will be charged USD 15 per kg, irrespective of the fare you select. 

For Mauritius:

For Economy and Premium Economy Class – Any extra ‘piece (pc)’ of Baggage over and above the free baggage allowance would be charged at USD 175 per piece (maximum weight: 23kg) or equivalent amount in local currency.

For Business Class - Any extra ‘piece (pc)’ of Baggage over and above the free baggage allowance would be charged at USD 175 per piece (maximum weight: 32kg) or equivalent amount in local currency.

If a customer is carrying excess weight (per piece, between 23-32kgs), excess baggage charges at the airport for Mauritius will be USD 100.

For London, Frankfurt and Paris:

If additional weight is being carried (between 23-32kg); you will be charged USD 100, irrespective of the cabin class and the fare you select. For additional piece, you will be charged USD 220 per piece. Baggage for the same can also be pre-purchased at up to 30% discounted prices.

For Hong Kong:

Excess Baggage at the airport will be charged at USD 20 per kg when travelling to and from Hong Kong.

For Bali:

If additional weight is being carried, you will be charged USD 20 per kg, irrespective of the fare you select.

2. Pre-Purchase excess baggage online:

You can also pre-purchase excess baggage directly through the Vistara website & Customer Service Centre (any additional weight over and above your allowance) at up to 30% concessional rates up to 6 hours before departure.

You may however purchase the service up to 60 minutes before departure, directly through the Vistara website, & through Customer Service Centre at non-discounted rates.

Charges for pre-purchasing excess baggage for Singapore, Bangkok, Kathmandu, Maldives, Dhaka and Colombo, for flights to and from India

For Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat, Jeddah, Dammam

For London, Frankfurt and Paris:

If additional weight is being carried (between 23-32kg); customers will be charged USD 100, irrespective of the cabin class and the fare selected. For additional pieces, customers will be charged USD 220 per piece (maximum weight: 23kg).

For Mauritius:

• For Economy and Premium Economy Class – Any extra ‘piece (pc)’ of Baggage over and above the free baggage allowance would be charged at USD 150 per piece (maximum weight: 23kg) or equivalent amount in local currency.
• For Business Class - Any extra ‘piece (pc)’ of Baggage over and above the free baggage allowance would be charged at USD 150 per piece (maximum weight: 32kg) or equivalent amount in local currency.

For Hong Kong:

Excess baggage can be pre-purchased at USD 17 per kg when travelling to and from Hong Kong.

For Bali:

Any extra ‘piece (pc)’ of Baggage over and above the free baggage allowance would be charged at USD 17 per piece or equivalent amount in local currency.

Baggage allowance for customers in the same PNR can be pooled together. Therefore, no excess baggage charges are applicable in this case

You can carry free hand baggage up to a maximum of 7kg in case of Economy Class, 10kg in case of Premium Economy and 12kg in case of Business Class when travelling within India and outside India. Hand baggage is limited to only 1 piece per customer and must fit within the size limits for cabin baggage.

A second, smaller, personal item such as a ladies purse can also be taken on board, as long as it can fit under the seat.

Additional hand baggage can be purchased at the check-in counters, airport counters or through the Customer Service Centre with our Carry-On Plus service.

This service can be purchased for INR 600 per kg (inclusive of taxes) for travel within India and USD 8 per kg for travel to Abu Dhabi, Dhaka, Dubai, Frankfurt, Jeddah, Dammam, London, Maldives, Muscat, Hong Kong, Bali, Doha, Mauritius and Paris for every additional kg beyond the free hand baggage allowance limit, up to a total of 12kg bag weight. However, for Economy Lite customers (travelling within India), the maximum weight allowed for Hand Baggage is 7kg. Additional Hand Baggage allowance cannot be purchased.

You will be charged a flat fee of INR 2,000 (per check-in baggage, inclusive of taxes) for travel within India or equivalent of USD 125 for International travel, if exceeding the permitted dimensions of 158 cms (Length + Breadth + Height). This can be purchased only at the airport.

For Muscat:

You will be charged a flat fee of USD 125 per piece, or an equivalent amount in the local currency, for oversized baggage(OOG) and an additional fee of OMR 04 per OOG item (OMR 02 for Oman Airports and OMR 02 for our appointed Ground Handlers partner).   

Note: The additional charges were implemented in August 2018 and will be collected by ground-handling service providers at the Muscat Airport.

Articles exempted from oversized baggage charges by Oman Airport: Wheelchairs, baby strollers, golf bags, flat screen televisions above 43”, and musical instruments.

Please find the below hand baggage allowance for travel within and outside India (1 pc only):

• 7kg in Economy Class
• 10kg in Premium Economy
• 12kg in Business Class

The maximum weight for one baggage in Economy Class and Premium Economy is 23kg and 32kg for Business Class for travel within India.

The maximum weight for one baggage is 32kg for travel outside India.

For safety and security reasons, you are prohibited from carrying the following items in hand baggage:

• Dry cell batteries
• Knives
• Scissors
• Sharp instruments
• Tools
• Firearms
• Ammunition
• Toy replicas of weaponry
• Explosives

Passengers are allowed to carry one clear, transparent, re-sealable, litre-sized, plastic bag containing small quantities of liquid items/gels/pastes or items of a similar consistency required during the journey. The contents will be subject to screening and all security checks. The contents of your baggage must comply with Vistara’s security guidelines about permissible objects.

The following articles are prohibited due to safety reasons:

Compressed gases: deeply refrigerated, flammable, non-flammable and poisonous such as butane oxygen, liquid nitrogen, aqualung cylinders and compressed gas cylinders.

Corrosives such as acids, alkalis, mercury and wet cell batteries and apparatus containing mercury.

Explosives, munitions, fireworks and flares, ammunition including blank cartridges handguns, fireworks, pistol caps.

Flammable liquids and solids such as lighter refills, lighter fuel, matches, paints, thinners, fire-lighters, lighters that need inverting before ignition, matches (these may be carried on the person), radioactive material, briefcases and attache case with installed alarm devices.

Oxidizing materials such as bleaching powder and peroxides.

Poisons and infectious substances such as insecticides, weed-killers and live virus materials.

Anything that possesses and/or is capable of possessing and/or emitting a conspicuous and/or offensive odour.

Other dangerous articles such as magnetized materials, offensive or irritating materials.

A single piece of hand baggage must follow these dimensions: 55cms (22 inches) x 40cms (16 inches) x 20cms (8 inches)

When travelling from Bangkok, a single piece of hand baggage must follow these dimensions: 56cm (22 inches) x 45cm (18 inches) x 25cm (10 inches). If the size exceeds the specified dimensions, the baggage will need to be checked in.

Customers travelling with an infant are entitled to a baggage allowance of 7kg on domestic flights, and a baggage allowance of 10kg on international flights under the program, Baby-On-Board. The excess baggage can be carried as hand baggage or check-in baggage or divided among the two, as per the convenience of the customer. In addition to one piece of cabin baggage, you may be permitted to carry the following personal items:

• Handbag
• Overcoat or wrap
• Rug or blanket
• Camera or binoculars
• Reading material for the flight
• Infant's feeding aids for consumption during the flight
• Walking stick
• Umbrella (folding type)
• Medicines required during flight like asthma inhaler

Occasionally we may not have space to stow all hand baggage safely and as a result you may be asked to check in some or all of your hand baggage at the boarding gate.

Pre-purchase of excess baggage is not available for customers travelling on interline/codeshare tickets connecting to/from international destinations.

In some airports, the Oversize baggage may arrive on a separate belt. You may connect with our ground service team on arrival for assistance. For Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, oversize baggage can be collected from the below locations:

Delhi Airport

Customers can collect their oversize baggage at the below locations:

• Domestic Arrivals
  • Between Belt 3 and Belt 4, opposite the GMR information counter.
• International Arrivals
  • Between Belt 11 and Belt 12 in the arrival hall

Mumbai Airport

Customers can collect their oversize baggage at the below locations:

• Domestic Arrivals
  • East side of the arrival hall, opposite Belt 12 and Belt 13
  • West side of the arrival hall, opposite Belt 1 and Belt 2
• International Arrivals
  • Opposite Belt 4 and Belt 5 in the arrival hall

Bengaluru Airport

Customers can collect their oversize baggage near Belt 8 at the arrival hall in Terminal 2

TSAL will charge a flat fee of INR 2000 (per Checked-in Baggage, inclusive of all taxes) if exceeding the permitted dimensions of 158 cm.
